  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder

  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine applesauce, sugar, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract until well blended.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped walnuts if using.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, spreading evenly with the spatula.
  • Bake for 25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the bars to cool in the pan on a cooling rack for 10 minutes before cutting into squares.

Notes

For extra tips, consider adding a light dusting of powdered sugar before serving for a touch of sweetness and presentation. You can also substitute half of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for added texture and nutrition. If you prefer a more intense spice flavor, adjust the amount of cinnamon and nutmeg to taste.
