Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Butter knife

Ingredients

  • 6 slices white bread crusts removed
  • 50 grams butter softened
  • 300 milliliters milk
  • 100 milliliters cream
  • 2 large eggs
  • 75 grams sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 50 grams raisins
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 tablespoon sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F).
  • Butter each slice of bread on one side and cut into triangles.
  • Arrange a layer of buttered bread in a baking dish, buttered side up, and sprinkle half the raisins over the bread.
  • Add another layer of bread and the remaining raisins, finishing with a final layer of bread.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, cream, eggs, sugar, and vanilla extract.
  • Pour the milk mixture over the bread, ensuring all pieces are soaked.
  • Sprinkle the top with the ground cinnamon and additional sugar.
  • Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden and the custard has set.
  • Allow the pudding to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider adding a splash of brandy or whiskey to the milk mixture. You can also substitute the raisins with other dried fruits like sultanas or cranberries for variation. If you prefer a softer texture, use brioche or challah bread instead of white bread.
