  • 1 pastry brush

  • 1 package refrigerated pie crusts 2 crusts
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Roll out the pie crusts and cut each into quadrants.
  • Place an apple in the center of each pie crust quadrant.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine granulated sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Stuff the center of each apple with the sugar mixture.
  • Wrap each apple with the pie crust, pinching the dough to seal.
  • Place the wrapped apples in a baking pan.
  • In a saucepan, combine water, butter, and vanilla and bring to a boil.
  • Pour the boiling mixture evenly over the wrapped apples.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes until the crust is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let the dumplings rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For an extra rich flavor, consider adding a small piece of butter inside each apple before wrapping it with the pie crust. Ensure the apples are fully sealed in the dough to prevent leaking juices, which keeps the filling moist and delicious. Serve the apple dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for an indulgent treat.
