Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 Wooden spoon or spatula
  • 1 Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 pound bulk pork sausage
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 8 ounces cream cheese softened
  • 1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Line the baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In the large mixing bowl, combine the pork sausage, cheddar cheese, and softened cream cheese.
  • Mix in the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  • Roll the mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 20 to 25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and let them rest on a cooling rack for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

Make sure the cream cheese is fully softened before mixing to ensure a smooth and even texture in the sausage balls. If the mixture feels sticky when rolling into balls, lightly oil your hands to prevent sticking. These sausage balls can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days before baking. They also freeze well; simply place them on a baking sheet to freeze individually before storing them in a freezer bag. When ready to cook, bake directly from frozen, adding an additional 5 minutes to the cooking time.
