Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 pastry blender or fork
  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup butter cold and diced
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Add the cold, diced butter to the dry ingredients.
  • Use a pastry blender or fork to cut the butter into the dry mixture until it resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Spread the mixture evenly over the prepared apple filling in a baking dish.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the topping is golden brown.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For extra tips, ensure that the butter is cold as this helps create a crumbly texture for the topping. If you prefer a nuttier flavor, you can add a handful of chopped nuts like walnuts or pecans to the topping mixture. For an even more indulgent experience, serve the apple crisp warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.
