Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 cups bread cubes preferably day-old
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 2 cups apples peeled and diced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup raisins optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, eggs, granulated sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Add the bread cubes to the milk mixture, ensuring they are fully submerged, and let them soak for 10 minutes.
  • In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and add the diced apples and brown sugar, cooking until the apples are tender, about 5 minutes.
  • Combine the apple mixture and raisins with the soaked bread cubes, mixing gently to incorporate.
  • Transfer the mixture to a greased baking dish and spread it evenly.
  • Bake for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the bread pudding to rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, consider using a combination of different types of bread like brioche or challah. If you prefer a crunchier texture, sprinkle some chopped nuts on top before baking. To add a bit of tartness, you can include a tablespoon of lemon juice to the apple mixture. Serve the bread pudding with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream for an extra indulgent treat.
