Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Loaf pan
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the loaf pan using vegetable oil or cooking spray.
  • In the mixing bowl, whisk together the applesauce, vegetable oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and sugar until well combined.
  • In another bowl, mix the flour, baking soda, baking powder, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, stirring gently with a spatula until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 60 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Remove the loaf pan from the oven and allow it to cool for 10 minutes.
  • Transfer the bread to a cooling rack to cool completely before slicing.

Notes

For a more flavorful result, consider adding a handful of chopped nuts or raisins to the batter before baking. The key to a moist applesauce bread is not to overmix the batter once you combine wet and dry ingredients. Ensure even baking by checking the bread halfway through and rotating the pan if necessary.
