Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 measuring cup set
  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 Cooling rack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup applesauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup raisins
  • 1/4 cup walnuts chopped (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream the softened butter and sugar together until light and fluffy.
  • Stir in the applesauce and vanilla extract into the butter mixture.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Fold in the raisins and walnuts if using.
  • Drop tablespoon-sized balls of dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes or until the edges are slightly golden.
  • Transfer the cookies to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

Ensure the butter is softened to achieve the best texture for your cookies. You can substitute the raisins with other dried fruits like cranberries or add chocolate chips for a variation. If the dough seems too wet, add a tablespoon of flour at a time until the desired consistency is achieved.
