Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Wire rack
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 pair of tongs
  • 1 Oven

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds chicken wings separated into drumettes and flats
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper optional
  • 1/4 cup hot sauce
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place a wire rack on top of a baking sheet and set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the chicken wings, olive oil, salt, black pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper.
  • Toss the wings until they are evenly coated with the seasoning mixture.
  • Arrange the seasoned wings in a single layer on the wire rack.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 40-45 minutes, flipping halfway through, until the wings are crispy and golden brown.
  • In a small bowl, mix the hot sauce and melted butter until well combined.
  • Remove the wings from the oven and let them rest for 5 minutes.
  • Toss the baked wings in the hot sauce and butter mixture until fully coated.
  • Serve immediately with your choice of dipping sauce.

Notes

For extra crispy wings, make sure they are completely dry before seasoning, as moisture can prevent them from crisping up. Using a wire rack allows air to circulate around the wings, promoting even cooking and crispiness. Adjust the amount of cayenne pepper to your heat preference. If possible, marinate the wings in the seasoning mixture for a few hours or overnight in the refrigerator for enhanced flavor.
