  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 9x13 inch baking dish
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 plastic wrap

Ingredients
  

  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups whole milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 4 medium ripe bananas sliced
  • 1 box 12 ounces vanilla wafers
  • 1 cup heavy cream whipped

Instructions
 

  • In the saucepan, combine sugar, flour, and salt over medium heat.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and cook until the mixture thickens and comes to a boil.
  • In the mixing bowl, beat the eggs and slowly whisk in a small amount of the hot milk mixture to temper.
  • Return the tempered egg mixture to the saucepan, stirring constantly, and cook for another 2 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract.
  • In the baking dish, layer vanilla wafers, bananas, and pudding mixture, repeating layers until all ingredients are used.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours to set.
  • Before serving, spread whipped cream on top of the pudding.

Notes

For the best banana pudding, choose ripe bananas that are sweet yet firm to maintain texture, and allow plenty of time for chilling to ensure the flavors meld together beautifully. Consider making it a day ahead for an even richer taste.
