Equipment

  • 1 Blender or Food Processor
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 medium tomatoes chopped
  • 1/2 cup red onion chopped
  • 1 jalapeño seeded and chopped
  • 1/4 cup fresh cilantro chopped
  • 2 tablespoons lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Chop the tomatoes, red onion, and jalapeño on a cutting board.
  • In a blender or food processor, combine the chopped tomatoes, red onion, and jalapeño.
  • Add the chopped cilantro, lime juice, salt, and black pepper to the blender.
  • Pulse the blender until the mixture reaches your desired consistency.
  • Transfer the salsa to a mixing bowl using a spoon.
  • Let the salsa rest in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve the salsa chilled with your choice of chips or as a topping.

Notes

For a spicier salsa, leave the jalapeño seeds in or add an extra jalapeño. Adjust the salt and lime juice to taste. If you prefer a chunkier salsa, pulse the mixture less in the blender. Fresh ingredients will yield the best flavor, so try to use ripe tomatoes and fresh cilantro. The salsa can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
