Equipment

  • 1 large saucepan
  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Measuring spoons set

Ingredients

  • 2 cups blackberries
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

  • In a large saucepan, combine blackberries, water, sugar, and lemon juice, then bring to a boil over medium heat.
  • In a medium mixing bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add melted butter, milk, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and stir until a dough forms.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the boiling blackberry mixture.
  • Reduce the heat to a simmer, cover the saucepan, and cook for 20-25 minutes until dumplings are cooked through.
  • Remove from heat and let it rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

When dropping the dough into the boiling mixture, make sure to leave some space between each dumpling as they will expand while cooking. For a little extra flavor, try adding a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the dough. Serve the dumplings warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for a delightful finish.
