Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Ladle
  • 1 Fine mesh sieve
  • 1 Large bowl
  • 4 half-pint jars with lids

Ingredients

  • 4 cups fresh blackberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 2 jalapenos seeded and finely chopped
  • 1 package pectin (1.75 ounces)

Instructions

  • Combine blackberries, sugar, lemon juice, and jalapenos in a saucepan.
  • Cook over medium heat until the mixture begins to boil.
  • Stir in pectin and continue boiling for 1 minute.
  • Remove from heat and strain through a fine-mesh sieve into a large bowl to remove seeds.
  • Pour strained mixture into sterilized jars using a ladle.
  • Seal jars with lids and let cool at room temperature.
  • Refrigerate for 12 hours before use to allow the jam to set.

Notes

To ensure the perfect consistency, make sure to use a full rolling boil when cooking the jam, which means the boiling continues even when stirred. Be cautious when handling jalapenos; wearing gloves can prevent irritation. Sterilize jars properly to extend the shelf life of your jam. Feel free to adjust the amount of jalapeno for desired heat level.
