Servings 2 cups

Equipment

  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 potato masher
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Sterilized jar

Ingredients

  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon lemon zest
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Rinse the blueberries thoroughly under cold water.
  • In a medium saucepan, combine the blueberries, sugar, lemon juice, lemon zest, and salt.
  • Place the saucepan over medium heat and stir the mixture with a wooden spoon until the sugar is dissolved.
  • Use a potato masher to crush the blueberries slightly, releasing their juices.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Once the mixture has thickened to your desired consistency, remove the saucepan from the heat.
  • Allow the jam to cool slightly before transferring it to a sterilized jar.
  • Seal the jar tightly and let it rest at room temperature for about 1 hour before storing it in the refrigerator.

Notes

For a smoother texture, you can blend the mixture before cooking it. Adjust the sugar if you prefer a less sweet jam. Always use fresh, ripe blueberries for the best flavor. To test the jam's readiness, place a small spoonful on a cold plate; if it thickens, it's ready. Always sterilize your jar to ensure the jam stays fresh longer.
