Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Oven

Ingredients

  • 6 cups cubed bread stale or day-old
  • 2 cups milk whole
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 1 cup sugar granulated
  • 4 tablespoons butter melted
  • 3 large eggs beaten
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the baking dish with butter or non-stick spray.
  • In the mixing bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, sugar, melted butter, eggs, vanilla extract, bourbon, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until fully combined.
  • Add the cubed bread to the mixture and gently stir to coat.
  • Let the bread soak for about 10 minutes to absorb the liquid.
  • Transfer the soaked bread mixture into the prepared baking dish.
  • Sprinkle raisins over the top if using.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
  • Remove from the oven and let it rest for 15 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, use a mix of different types of bread for a more complex flavor and texture. If you prefer a less boozy flavor, reduce the bourbon by half or substitute with a non-alcoholic option like apple juice. Serve the bread pudding warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a drizzle of caramel sauce for added indulgence. Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator and reheated in the oven.
