Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 pot
  • 1 slotted spoon

Ingredients

  • 4 cup bread cubes stale
  • 1 cup milk warm
  • 2 eggs beaten
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  • Place the stale bread cubes in a large mixing bowl.
  • Pour the warm milk over the bread cubes and let it soak for 15 minutes.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, flour, parsley, salt, and pepper.
  • Add the egg mixture to the soaked bread and mix until combined.
  • Let the mixture rest for an additional 15 minutes.
  • Form the mixture into 8 evenly-sized dumplings.
  • Melt the butter in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Add the dumplings to the pan and cook until golden brown on all sides.
  • Meanwhile, bring a pot of water to a gentle simmer.
  • Gently transfer the browned dumplings to the simmering water.
  • Cook the dumplings in the water for about 10 minutes, or until they float.
  • Remove the dumplings with a slotted spoon and serve warm.

Notes

Ensure the bread used is sufficiently stale to absorb the milk without turning mushy. If the mixture feels too wet, add a bit more flour to reach the desired consistency. Always simmer the dumplings gently to avoid them breaking apart. Using fresh herbs enhances the flavor, but dried herbs can be used in a pinch with slightly reduced quantities.
