Equipment

  • 1 Baking dish
  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 Oven mitt
  • 1 Knife

Ingredients

  • 6 cup cubed bread preferably day-old
  • 2 cup whole milk
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter melted

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the baking dish with butter.
  • Place the cubed bread in the baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the milk, heavy cream, sugar, eggs, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt.
  • Pour the liquid mixture over the bread cubes.
  • Gently press down on the bread to ensure it is soaked.
  • Sprinkle the raisins evenly over the top.
  • Drizzle the melted butter over the bread mixture.
  • Let the mixture sit for 10 minutes to allow the bread to absorb the liquid.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the pudding is set.
  • Allow the bread pudding to rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For best results, use bread that is slightly stale as it will absorb the custard mixture better and give the pudding a nice texture. Feel free to experiment with different types of bread such as brioche or challah for added richness. Adding nuts or a splash of bourbon can also enhance the flavor of your bread pudding.
