  • 1 loaf Italian bread or French baguette
  • 4 tablespoon unsalted butter softened
  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 4 clove garlic minced
  • 1 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup Parmesan cheese grated
  • 2 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Slice the loaf in half lengthwise and place cut-side up on a baking sheet.
  • In a small bowl, mix softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, salt, black pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes until well combined.
  • Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over both bread halves.
  • Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and grated Parmesan evenly over the top of the buttered bread.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 10–12 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the edges are golden.
  • Remove from the oven and let the cheesy garlic bread rest for 5 minutes.
  • Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the top, slice into pieces, and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread so it toasts up crisp without getting soggy, and be sure the butter is fully softened so it spreads easily and evenly into all the bread’s crevices. Adjust the garlic to taste, keeping in mind that fresh garlic is stronger than jarred, and finely mincing it prevents harsh bites. If you prefer a crisper top, switch the oven to broil for the last 1–2 minutes while watching closely to avoid burning. You can prepare the garlic butter a day ahead and refrigerate it, then bring it to room temperature before spreading, and feel free to customize the cheese blend with cheddar, provolone, or Monterey Jack for different flavor and melt.
