  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 2 cup cherries pitted
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs
  • 1 tablespoon powdered sugar for garnish

Instructions

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and salt.
  • Add the egg and water to the flour and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5 minutes until smooth.
  • Cover the dough and let it rest for 30 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough to about 1/8 inch thick using a rolling pin.
  • Cut the dough into 3-inch squares.
  • Place a few cherries in the center of each square and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Fold the squares into triangles and press the edges to seal.
  • Bring a pot of water to a boil and gently drop the dumplings in.
  • Cook the dumplings for about 10 minutes or until they float to the surface.
  • Use a slotted spoon to remove the dumplings and place them on a plate.
  • Melt the butter in a small pan and toast the bread crumbs until golden.
  • Drizzle the melted butter and toasted bread crumbs over the dumplings.
  • Sprinkle with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

For the best results, ensure the dough is well-kneaded and rested to prevent it from breaking during cooking. It’s important to seal the edges of the dumplings tightly to keep the cherry filling from leaking. Adjust the sugar to taste in the filling if your cherries are particularly sweet or tart. Enjoy these cherry dumplings warm for the best flavor.
