Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Rolling Pin
  • 1 dumpling steamer or large pot with a steamer insert
  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 small bowl for dipping sauce

Ingredients
  

  • 2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/2 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup cabbage finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 teaspoon ginger grated
  • 2 clove garlic minced
  • 1/4 cup green onions chopped
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce for dipping
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar for dipping

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine flour and water to form a dough and knead until smooth.
  • Cover the dough with a damp cloth and let it rest for 15 minutes.
  • In another bowl, mix ground pork, cabbage, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, green onions, salt, and pepper.
  • Roll the dough into a long cylinder and cut into small pieces.
  • Flatten each piece into a small circle using a rolling pin.
  • Place a spoonful of filling in the center of each dough circle.
  • Fold the dough over the filling and pinch the edges to seal the dumplings.
  • Heat a frying pan over medium heat and add a tablespoon of oil.
  • Place dumplings in the pan and cook until the bottoms are golden brown.
  • Add a splash of water to the pan and cover to steam the dumplings for about 5 minutes.
  • Remove the lid and cook until the water has evaporated.
  • Serve the dumplings hot with dipping sauce made from soy sauce and rice vinegar.

Notes

For perfectly cooked dumplings, ensure the dough is neither too sticky nor too dry, and always cover the dough with a damp cloth to prevent it from drying out. When sealing the dumplings, make sure there are no air bubbles inside, as this can cause them to burst during cooking. Adjust the seasoning to your taste and experiment with different fillings to find your favorite combination.
