Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 Dumpling steamer or large pot with a steaming basket

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoon cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 tablespoon butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, cocoa powder, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients and mix until a smooth dough forms.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips evenly into the dough.
  • Shape small dumplings from the dough using a spoon.
  • Fill a saucepan with water and bring it to a simmer.
  • Place the dumplings in a steamer or a steaming basket over the simmering water.
  • Cover and steam the dumplings for 10-12 minutes until cooked through.
  • In a separate saucepan, heat heavy cream over medium heat until warm.
  • Drizzle warm cream over the steamed dumplings before serving.
  • Allow the dumplings to rest for 10 minutes before serving to enhance flavors.

Notes

Ensure the saucepan with water maintains a gentle simmer to avoid overcooking the dumplings, which can make them tough. If you prefer a richer chocolate flavor, you can increase the cocoa powder slightly. Serve immediately for the best texture and taste, and consider adding a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a sprinkle of powdered sugar for extra indulgence.
