Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Oven
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Measuring cups
  • 1 Measuring spoons
  • 1 Knife

Ingredients

  • 40 pieces saltine crackers
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and arrange the saltine crackers in a single layer.
  • In a saucepan, melt the butter and brown sugar over medium heat, stirring constantly until it reaches a boil.
  • Once boiling, allow the mixture to boil for 3 minutes without stirring.
  • Remove from heat and add vanilla extract, then pour evenly over the saltine crackers.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 5 minutes.
  • Remove from oven and sprinkle chocolate chips over the crackers, allowing them to melt.
  • Spread the melted chocolate evenly with a spatula.
  • Mix granulated sugar and ground cinnamon together, then sprinkle over the melted chocolate.
  • Allow the toffee to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes or until the chocolate is set.
  • Once set, cut the toffee into pieces as desired and serve.

Notes

For best results, ensure the butter and brown sugar mixture is boiling properly before pouring over the crackers to achieve a good toffee texture. You can speed up the cooling process by placing the toffee in the refrigerator, but be cautious not to leave it too long as it can become too hard to cut. Experiment with different types of chocolate or additional toppings like nuts for added flavor and texture.
