Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 1/3 cup caramel sauce
  • 4 ripe bananas sliced
  • 1 cup heavy cream whipped
  • 1 box vanilla wafers

Instructions
 

  • Combine sugar, cornstarch, and salt in a medium saucepan.
  • Gradually whisk in the milk over medium heat until the mixture thickens.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the egg yolks.
  • Temper the yolks by slowly adding some hot milk mixture while whisking.
  • Return the yolk mixture to the saucepan and cook for 2 more minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract and butter until melted.
  • Add caramel sauce and mix until combined.
  • In a baking dish, layer vanilla wafers, sliced bananas, and pudding.
  • Repeat layers and finish with a layer of whipped cream on top.
  • Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 2 hours.

Notes

For best results, ensure the caramel sauce is at room temperature before mixing it into the pudding to ensure a smooth consistency. Additionally, using ripe bananas will provide more sweetness and a creamier texture.
