Equipment

  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or spoon
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 plastic wrap or airtight container
  • 1 serving bowl

Ingredients

  • 240 gram sour cream full-fat
  • 225 gram cream cheese softened
  • 120 gram salsa medium
  • 60 gram mayonnaise
  • 60 gram shredded cheddar cheese sharp
  • 30 gram green onions finely sliced
  • 15 gram pickled jalapeños finely chopped
  • 2 gram garlic powder
  • 2 gram onion powder
  • 2 gram smoked paprika
  • 2 gram ground cumin
  • 2 gram salt or to taste
  • 1 gram black pepper freshly ground
  • 30 gram fresh tomato finely optional garnish; diced
  • 15 gram fresh cilantro optional garnish; chopped
  • 300 gram Doritos any flavor for serving

Instructions

  • Place the softened cream cheese in the medium mixing bowl and whisk or mash until smooth and lump-free.
  • Add the sour cream and mayonnaise to the bowl and whisk until fully combined and creamy.
  • Stir in the salsa until evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  • Add the shredded cheddar cheese, green onions, and chopped jalapeños, and fold together with a spatula.
  • Sprinkle in the garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, cumin, salt, and black pepper, then mix until all seasonings are well incorporated.
  • Taste the dip and adjust salt, pepper, or jalapeños to reach your preferred spice and seasoning level.
  • Transfer the dip to a serving bowl or airtight container and smooth the top with a spatula.
  • Cover the bowl tightly with plastic wrap or seal the container, then refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors meld.
  • Just before serving, garnish the top of the dip with diced tomato and chopped cilantro if using.
  • Serve the chilled dip surrounded by Doritos for scooping, and stir briefly before guests start dipping.

Notes

For best flavor, let the dip rest longer than 30 minutes if you have time, even up to overnight, as this allows the spices and aromatics to fully infuse the dairy base; use room-temperature cream cheese to avoid lumps, and if the dip seems too thick after chilling, loosen it with a spoonful or two of sour cream or milk and stir until smooth. You can easily customize the heat by choosing mild or hot salsa and adjusting jalapeños, or swap in flavored Doritos (like Nacho Cheese or Cool Ranch) to change the overall taste profile. Keep the dip chilled until serving, avoid leaving it at room temperature for more than 2 hours, and store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, stirring before reuse.
