  • 1 Baking dish 9x9 inches
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Cooling rack
  • 1 Knife

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup eggnog
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease the baking dish.
  • Melt the butter in a saucepan over medium heat and add sugar, stirring until dissolved.
  • Remove from heat and let cool slightly.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, eggnog, and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually add the melted butter and sugar mixture to the egg mixture, whisking continuously.
  • Sift in the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, salt, nutmeg, and cinnamon, and gently fold the mixture until combined.
  • Stir in the chocolate chips.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly with a spatula.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the baking dish for 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely before cutting into squares.

Notes

When making Eggnog Brownies, ensure the melted butter and sugar mixture is not too hot when incorporating into the egg mixture to prevent curdling. For a more pronounced eggnog flavor, you can add a splash of rum or rum extract. If you prefer a fudgier texture, consider under-baking the brownies slightly and allowing them to firm up as they cool. You can enhance the festive flavor by sprinkling a little extra nutmeg or cinnamon on top before serving.
