  • 1 large skillet
  • 4 toothpicks or skewers
  • 1 pair of tongs

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds flank steak
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup fresh spinach chopped
  • 1/2 cup roasted red peppers sliced
  • 1/2 cup mozzarella cheese shredded
  • 1/4 cup basil leaves chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder

Instructions

  • Place the flank steak on a cutting board and use a meat mallet to pound it to an even thickness.
  • Season both sides of the steak with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder.
  • Layer the spinach, roasted red peppers, mozzarella cheese, and basil leaves evenly over the steak.
  • Carefully roll the steak into a tight log shape and secure with toothpicks or skewers.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Sear the steak roll for 3-4 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Lower the heat to medium and continue cooking for 10-12 minutes, turning occasionally.
  • Remove from heat and let the steak rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Slice the steak into pinwheels and serve hot.

Notes

When preparing this dish, ensure the flank steak is pounded to an even thickness for uniform cooking. Use fresh ingredients for the filling to enhance flavor, and be careful when rolling the steak to keep the filling inside. Cooking the steak slowly after searing helps to maintain juiciness and tenderness.
