Equipment

  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 pieces pork chops
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 cups onions thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon thyme dried
  • 1 cup Gruyère cheese shredded

Instructions

  • Heat the skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  • Season the pork chops with salt and pepper on both sides.
  • Place the pork chops in the skillet and sear for 4 minutes on each side until browned.
  • Remove the pork chops and set aside.
  • Add the remaining olive oil to the skillet and sauté the onions until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  • Stir in the balsamic vinegar and thyme with the caramelized onions.
  • Pour the beef broth into the skillet and bring to a simmer.
  • Return the pork chops to the skillet and spoon onion mixture over them.
  • Cover the skillet and cook for 15 minutes until the pork chops are cooked through.
  • Sprinkle the shredded Gruyère cheese over the pork chops and cover until melted.
  • Allow the pork chops to rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best results, ensure the onions are evenly caramelized to achieve a rich flavor, and use a good quality beef broth for the sauce. Adjust the seasoning to taste, and for a twist, you can add a splash of white wine to deglaze the pan after sautéing the onions.
