French Onion Soup Burger

Ingredients
  

  • 2 tablespoon butter
  • 2 large onions thinly sliced
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 slices Swiss cheese
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 1/4 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley chopped

Instructions
 

  • Melt the butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add the sliced onions to the skillet and sprinkle with sugar.
  • Cook the onions, stirring occasionally, until they are caramelized, about 15 minutes.
  • Pour in the beef broth and Worcestershire sauce and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, salt, and black pepper.
  • Shape the beef mixture into four equal patties.
  • Heat a medium saucepan over medium-high heat and cook the patties for 4-5 minutes on each side.
  • Top each patty with a slice of Swiss cheese during the last minute of cooking.
  • Toast the hamburger buns in a separate skillet or toaster.
  • Mix the mayonnaise and Dijon mustard in a small bowl.
  • Spread the mayonnaise mixture on each half of the toasted buns.
  • Place a beef patty on the bottom half of each bun.
  • Top each patty with a generous portion of caramelized onions and chopped parsley.
  • Cover with the top half of the bun and serve immediately.

Notes

When preparing the caramelized onions, be patient and allow them to cook slowly for maximum sweetness and flavor. You can prepare the onions in advance and reheat them when assembling the burgers. For an added layer of flavor, consider adding a splash of white wine to the onions as they caramelize.
