Equipment

  • 1 Oven or toaster oven
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Small mixing bowl
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 pastry brush or butter knife

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread white or whole wheat
  • 3 tablespoon unsalted butter softened
  • 2 clove garlic finely minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 1 pinch black pepper
  • 2 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, parsley, salt, and black pepper, mixing until smooth and well blended.
  • Place the bread slices on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  • Spread a generous, even layer of the garlic butter mixture over the top side of each bread slice using a pastry brush or butter knife.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered side of each slice if using.
  • Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for 6–8 minutes, or until the edges of the bread are golden and the tops are lightly crisp.
  • Remove the baking sheet from the oven and let the garlic toast rest for 2 minutes to cool slightly and set.
  • Slice the garlic toast if desired and serve warm.

Notes

For best flavor, use room-temperature butter so it mixes easily with the garlic and spreads evenly on the bread, and mince the garlic very finely to avoid sharp raw bits and ensure even toasting. You can adjust the garlic level to your taste, switch parsley for dried Italian seasoning if fresh herbs aren’t available, or use thicker sliced bread for a chewier center and thinner slices for extra crispiness. If you prefer a deeper golden color, briefly broil the toast at the end while watching closely to prevent burning, and serve the toast promptly so it stays crisp rather than softening as it cools.
