Equipment

  • 1 large mixing bowl
  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 9x9 inch baking pan
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Parchment paper

Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup brown sugar packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9x9 inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  • Melt the butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat and then remove it from the heat.
  • Stir in both sugars into the melted butter until well combined.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, whisking well after each addition.
  • Stir in vanilla extract until fully incorporated.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, ground ginger, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt.
  • Gradually fold the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients using a spatula until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before lifting them out using the parchment paper and cutting them into squares.

Notes

To enhance the gingerbread flavor, consider adding a tablespoon of molasses to the wet ingredients. Make sure not to overmix the batter to keep the brownies tender. If you prefer a more intense spice, adjust the spices to your taste. Allow the brownies to cool completely before slicing for cleaner cuts.
