Equipment

  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Small mixing bowl
  • 1 Spoon
  • 1 pastry brush (or 1 spoon for spreading)
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Oven or toaster oven

Ingredients

  • 4 slices white bread thick-cut
  • 3 tablespoon unsalted butter softened
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil extra-virgin
  • 3 clove garlic finely minced
  • 2 tablespoon fresh parsley finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes optional

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven or toaster oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Place the bread slices on the baking sheet in a single layer.
  • In the small mixing bowl, combine softened butter, olive oil, minced garlic, parsley, salt, pepper, oregano, and red pepper flakes (if using).
  • Mix the garlic butter mixture thoroughly until smooth and well combined.
  • Spread or brush a generous, even layer of the garlic butter mixture over one side of each bread slice.
  • Sprinkle grated Parmesan cheese evenly over the buttered side of the bread if using.
  • Place the baking sheet on the middle rack of the oven.
  • Bake for 8–10 minutes until the bread edges are golden and the tops are bubbly.
  • For extra crispiness, broil on high for 1–2 minutes, watching closely to avoid burning.
  • Remove the garlic bread from the oven and let it rest on the baking sheet for 2 minutes before serving.

Notes

Use bread that is a day old or slightly dry so it crisps better and doesn’t become soggy, and make sure the butter is fully softened so it spreads easily without tearing the slices. Adjust garlic to your taste—fresh cloves give stronger flavor, while a little garlic powder can be added for extra punch. If using very soft sandwich bread, toast it lightly before adding the garlic butter to help it hold its shape. You can prepare the garlic butter in advance and refrigerate or freeze it, then spread it on bread straight from the fridge. For variation, top with mozzarella and broil until melted for a quick cheesy garlic toast, or use whole wheat or sourdough bread for a deeper flavor.
