  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 Parchment paper
  • 1 wire cooling rack
  • 1 Small saucepan

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter melted
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup chopped nuts optional
  • 1/2 cup raisins optional
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons milk

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, granulated sugar, brown sugar, baking powder, baking soda, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.
  • In a medium bowl, combine melted butter, milk, egg, and vanilla extract, then stir into the dry ingredients until well combined.
  • Fold in the chopped nuts and raisins if desired.
  • Scoop tablespoon-sized portions of dough onto the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until the cookies are set.
  • Remove from the oven and let cool on the baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire cooling rack.
  • While the cookies cool, prepare the glaze by whisking together powdered sugar and milk in a small saucepan over low heat until smooth.
  • Drizzle the glaze over the cooled cookies and allow them to set for about 30 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best texture, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature before beginning. If you prefer a more intense chocolate flavor, you can add an extra tablespoon of cocoa powder to the dry ingredients. These cookies can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week, maintaining their soft and chewy texture.
