Equipment

  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bread
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 150 grams cooked chicken breast thinly sliced
  • 1 cup cabbage shredded
  • 2 tablespoons tonkatsu sauce
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter

Instructions

  • Spread mayonnaise evenly on one side of each bread slice.
  • In a small mixing bowl, combine soy sauce and tonkatsu sauce.
  • Layer the chicken slices on two of the bread slices, mayonnaise side up.
  • Add shredded cabbage on top of the chicken.
  • Drizzle the soy and tonkatsu sauce mixture over the cabbage.
  • Top with the remaining bread slices, mayonnaise side down.
  • Heat the frying pan over medium heat and add butter.
  • Place the sandwiches in the pan and cook until golden brown on each side, about 2-3 minutes per side.
  • Allow the sandwiches to rest for 5 minutes before slicing.
  • Slice each sandwich diagonally and serve immediately.

Notes

For the best results, ensure the chicken breast is thinly sliced to allow for even layering in the sandwich. You can also add a pinch of salt and pepper to the cabbage for extra flavor, and try using a bread type that holds up well to grilling, like Japanese milk bread, for an authentic texture.
