Equipment

  • 1 Large pot
  • 1 Potato masher or fork
  • 1 peeler
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 colander
  • 1 Mixing bowl

Ingredients

  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup butter unsalted
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)

Instructions

  • Peel and cube the sweet potatoes.
  • Place the cubed sweet potatoes in a large pot and cover with water.
  • Bring the water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Reduce heat and let the sweet potatoes simmer for 15-20 minutes or until tender.
  • Drain the sweet potatoes in a colander and transfer them to a mixing bowl.
  • Add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and cinnamon to the sweet potatoes.
  • Mash the sweet potatoes until smooth using a potato masher or fork.
  • Taste and adjust seasoning if necessary.
  • Let the mashed sweet potatoes rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

To enhance the flavor, try adding a pinch of nutmeg or a drizzle of maple syrup to the mashed sweet potatoes. If you prefer a creamier texture, use a hand mixer instead of a masher. For a dairy-free version, substitute butter and milk with coconut oil and coconut milk.
