Equipment

  • 1 Pie dish
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Medium saucepan
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 Oven

Ingredients

  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 pre-made pie crust baked

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cocoa powder, flour, and salt.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the eggs and gradually add the milk, blending well.
  • Slowly pour the egg and milk mixture into the saucepan, stirring constantly.
  • Cook the mixture over medium heat, stirring continuously until it thickens, about 10 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the butter and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Pour the chocolate mixture into the pre-baked pie crust.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 30 minutes until the pie filling is set.
  • Allow the pie to cool at room temperature for 1 hour.
  • Transfer the pie to the refrigerator and let it chill for at least 1 hour before serving.

Notes

For best results, ensure that you constantly stir the chocolate mixture while cooking to prevent it from sticking to the bottom of the saucepan. If you prefer a richer flavor, you can substitute half of the milk with cream. Serve your Old-Fashioned Chocolate Pie with a dollop of whipped cream for an extra indulgent treat.
