Equipment

  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Baking dish (9x9 inches)
  • 1 measuring cup set
  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 Spatula

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 3/4 cup boiling water

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, 1/4 cup cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Stir in milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until well combined.
  • Pour the batter into a greased 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • In a separate bowl, mix brown sugar and remaining 1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder.
  • Sprinkle the brown sugar mixture evenly over the batter in the baking dish.
  • Carefully pour boiling water over the top; do not stir.
  • Place the baking dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes.
  • Allow the pudding cake to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

When pouring the boiling water over the batter, ensure it is done gently to avoid disturbing the layers. This will create a delicious contrast between a cake-like top and a rich, pudding-like bottom. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an indulgent treat.
