  • 1 large skillet
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 measuring spoon set

Ingredients

  • 300 grams pasta penne, spaghetti, or your choice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 medium onion finely chopped
  • 3 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 can 400 grams crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish optional

Instructions

  • Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.
  • Add pasta to the boiling water and cook according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain the pasta using a colander and set aside.
  • Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion to the skillet and sauté until translucent.
  • Stir in minced garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  • Add crushed tomatoes and tomato paste to the skillet, stirring well to combine.
  • Mix in sugar, dried oregano, dried basil, salt, and black pepper.
  • Simmer the sauce for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss until evenly coated.
  • Remove from heat and let the pasta rest for 5 minutes.
  • Serve the pasta hot, topped with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves if desired.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add a splash of red wine to the sauce while it simmers, or include a pinch of red pepper flakes for some heat. If you prefer a smoother sauce, consider using an immersion blender before adding the pasta. Adjust seasoning to taste after simmering, as the flavors will develop during cooking.
