Equipment

  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • 1 Small mixing bowl
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 whisk or fork
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Serving dish

Ingredients

  • 225 gram cream cheese softened
  • 120 gram sour cream
  • 240 gram salsa chunky
  • 60 gram shredded cheddar cheese
  • 60 gram shredded Monterey Jack cheese
  • 2 gram garlic powder
  • 2 gram onion powder
  • 1 gram ground cumin
  • 2 gram salt or to taste
  • 1 gram black pepper or to taste
  • 15 gram fresh cilantro chopped
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 small jalapeño optional; seeded and finely minced

Instructions

  • Place the softened cream cheese in the medium mixing bowl.
  • Add the sour cream to the cream cheese and whisk or mash with a fork until completely smooth and well combined.
  • Stir in the garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, salt, and black pepper until evenly mixed.
  • Spread the cream cheese mixture evenly into the bottom of the serving dish using a spatula.
  • In the small mixing bowl, combine the salsa, chopped cilantro, green onions, and jalapeño (if using).
  • Gently pour or spoon the salsa mixture over the cream cheese layer, spreading it evenly.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheeses evenly over the top.
  • Cover the dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Remove from the refrigerator, uncover, and let sit at room temperature for about 5 minutes before serving.
  • Serve with tortilla chips, crackers, or fresh vegetable sticks.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat cream cheese and drain any excess liquid from the salsa so the dip doesn’t become watery; softening the cream cheese fully at room temperature makes mixing easier and prevents lumps, and you can adjust heat by adding more or less jalapeño or using a hotter salsa. Prepare the dip a few hours ahead for deeper flavor, but add any delicate fresh herbs right before serving to keep them vibrant, and always taste and adjust salt and seasoning after chilling, since flavors can mellow in the fridge.
