Equipment

  • 1 Frying pan
  • 1 Medium bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Baking sheet
  • 1 paper towel
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 pound shrimp peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 cup lettuce shredded
  • 1 tomato sliced
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • vegetable oil for frying

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, mix flour, cornmeal, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  • Place the shrimp in the bowl with buttermilk and soak for 5 minutes.
  • Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Remove shrimp from buttermilk and coat them in the flour mixture.
  • Fry the shrimp in the hot oil until golden brown, about 3 minutes per side.
  • Drain the fried shrimp on a paper towel-lined baking sheet.
  • Toast the hoagie rolls in the oven or a skillet until slightly crispy.
  • Mix mayonnaise and hot sauce in a small bowl.
  • Spread the spicy mayonnaise on the inside of each hoagie roll.
  • Layer lettuce, tomato slices, and fried shrimp inside the rolls.
  • Serve immediately after assembly.

Notes

For best results, ensure the oil is hot enough before frying the shrimp to achieve a crispy texture. You can adjust the level of spiciness by altering the amount of hot sauce in the mayonnaise. Serve with a side of fries or coleslaw for a complete meal.
