Equipment

  • 1 Large pot
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 1 medium green bell pepper chopped
  • 2 tablespoons chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1 can crushed tomatoes (28 ounces)
  • 1 can kidney beans drained and rinsed (15 ounces)
  • 1 can black beans drained and rinsed (15 ounces)
  • 1 cup water

Instructions

  • Heat the large pot over medium heat and add ground beef.
  • Cook the beef until browned, then remove excess fat.
  • Add chopped onion, minced garlic, and chopped bell pepper to the pot.
  • Stir in chili powder, cumin, salt, and cayenne pepper.
  • Add crushed tomatoes and mix well.
  • Stir in kidney beans, black beans, and water.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  • Stir occasionally to prevent sticking.
  • Remove from heat and let the chili rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For the best flavor, allow the chili to simmer longer if possible, as this will help the spices meld together and deepen the taste. Adjust the level of spiciness by altering the amount of cayenne pepper to suit your preference. If you prefer a thicker chili, reduce the amount of water or allow it to simmer with the lid off for a few extra minutes.
