Equipment

  • 1 Rice Cooker
  • 1 Steamer
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 measuring cup

Ingredients

  • 2 cups Jasmine Rice
  • 3 cups Water
  • 1 pound Ground Pork
  • 1/4 cup Soy Sauce
  • 2 tablespoons Sesame Oil
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup Green Onions chopped
  • 1/4 cup Carrots finely diced
  • 1/4 cup Water Chestnuts chopped
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black Pepper
  • 24 Siomai Wrappers
  • 1 tablespoon Garlic minced

Instructions

  • Rinse the jasmine rice under cold water until the water runs clear.
  • Place the rinsed rice and 3 cups of water into the rice cooker and cook according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine ground pork, soy sauce, sesame oil, cornstarch, green onions, carrots, water chestnuts, salt, and black pepper, mixing well.
  • Lay a siomai wrapper flat on a cutting board and place a tablespoon of the pork mixture in the center.
  • Gather the edges of the wrapper and pleat them around the filling, leaving the top exposed, to form a siomai.
  • Repeat the process with the remaining wrappers and pork mixture.
  • Arrange the siomai in a steamer, ensuring they are not touching, and steam for 15 minutes or until the pork is cooked through.
  • Fluff the cooked rice with a fork and allow it to rest for 5 minutes.
  • Serve the siomai over a bed of jasmine rice with a side of soy sauce for dipping.

Notes

For added flavor, you can include a pinch of ginger or a dash of rice vinegar in the pork mixture. Ensure the siomai are not overcrowded in the steamer to allow even cooking. Adjust the salt and soy sauce to your preference for a personalized taste.
