Equipment

  • 1 Skillet or Grill Pan
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 plate

Ingredients
  

  • 4 slices sourdough bread
  • 4 tablespoons butter softened
  • 4 slices cheese such as cheddar or Swiss
  • 4 slices deli meat such as turkey or ham
  • 1 whole tomato sliced
  • 1/2 cup lettuce shredded
  • 2 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the skillet or grill pan over medium heat.
  • Spread 1 tablespoon of butter on one side of each slice of sourdough bread.
  • Place two slices of bread, buttered side down, on the skillet.
  • Layer two slices of cheese and two slices of deli meat on each piece of bread in the skillet.
  • Add slices of tomato and shredded lettuce on top of the meat.
  • Spread mayonnaise on the unbuttered side of the remaining bread slices.
  • Season with salt and pepper.
  • Place the remaining bread slices on top, mayonnaise side down.
  • Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bread is golden brown and the cheese starts to melt.
  • Carefully flip the sandwiches with a spatula and cook for an additional 2 minutes.
  • Remove from the skillet and let cool slightly before cutting in half.

Notes

For best results, use fresh sourdough bread and ensure the butter is softened for easy spreading. You can customize your sandwich with additional ingredients like avocado or pickles for extra flavor. Adjust the cooking time if using a different type of cheese, ensuring it melts properly before serving.
