Equipment

  • 1 Large pot
  • 1 Wooden spoon
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Knife
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Ladle

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pound beef stew meat cubed
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 clove garlic minced
  • 4 cup beef broth
  • 3 large carrot sliced
  • 2 large potato cubed
  • 2 bay leaf
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • salt to taste
  • pepper to taste
  • 2 cup flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoon butter softened
  • 3/4 cup milk

Instructions

  • Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat.
  • Add the beef stew meat and brown on all sides.
  • Remove the beef and set aside.
  • Add chopped onions and minced garlic to the pot; sauté until onions are translucent.
  • Return beef to the pot and pour in the beef broth.
  • Add carrots, potatoes, bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 1.5 hours.
  • Meanwhile, in a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Cut in the softened butter until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Stir in milk to form a soft dough.
  • Drop spoonfuls of the dough into the simmering stew.
  • Cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

Ensure the stew simmers gently to allow the flavors to meld and the meat to become tender. When making the dumplings, be careful not to overmix the dough to ensure they remain light and fluffy. If the stew is too thick, add a bit more broth or water to adjust the consistency.
