Ingredients
  

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 medium carrots diced
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 2 tablespoons tomato paste
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 pounds sweet potatoes peeled and cubed
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large saucepan, boil sweet potatoes in salted water until tender.
  • While sweet potatoes are boiling, heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium heat.
  • Add chopped onion and minced garlic to the frying pan, sauté until softened.
  • Add carrots to the frying pan and cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Add ground beef to the frying pan and cook until browned, breaking it up with a wooden spoon.
  • Stir in tomato paste, beef broth, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper.
  • Let the beef mixture simmer for 10 minutes, then stir in frozen peas.
  • Drain the cooked sweet potatoes using a colander and return them to the saucepan.
  • Add milk and butter to the sweet potatoes, and mash until smooth.
  • Spread the beef mixture evenly in a baking dish.
  • Top the beef mixture with the mashed sweet potatoes, smoothing with a spoon.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25 minutes, until the top is golden.
  • Let the dish rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

When preparing this dish, try to ensure the sweet potatoes are well-mashed for a smooth topping. If you prefer a creamier texture, consider adding a splash more milk. For an added depth of flavor, feel free to sprinkle a bit of grated cheese on top before baking. Remember, seasoning each layer adequately will enhance the overall taste of the pie.
