Equipment

  • 1 medium mixing bowl
  • 1 whisk or spoon
  • 1 Rubber spatula
  • 1 9x9-inch serving dish or similar size
  • 1 Cutting board
  • 1 Chef's knife
  • 1 plastic wrap

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup cream cheese softened
  • 2 tablespoon taco seasoning mix
  • 1 cup refried beans
  • 1 cup salsa medium
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup tomato diced
  • 1/4 cup black olives sliced
  • 2 tablespoon green onions sliced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt optional
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper optional
  • 1 bag tortilla chips for serving

Instructions

  • In a medium mixing bowl, combine the sour cream, softened cream cheese, and taco seasoning mix, whisking until smooth and well blended.
  • Taste the mixture and season with salt and black pepper if needed.
  • Spread the refried beans evenly on the bottom of the serving dish to form the first layer.
  • Gently spread the sour cream and cream cheese mixture over the bean layer using a spatula.
  • Spoon the salsa evenly over the creamy layer, spreading carefully to avoid mixing the layers too much.
  • Sprinkle the shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the salsa layer.
  • Top with shredded lettuce, making an even layer across the surface.
  • Scatter the diced tomato, sliced black olives, and sliced green onions evenly over the top.
  • Cover the dish tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to chill and set.
  • Remove from the refrigerator, uncover, and serve the taco dip chilled with tortilla chips.

Notes

For best results, use full-fat sour cream and cream cheese so the layers stay thick and creamy, and make sure the cream cheese is fully softened to avoid lumps in the mixture. You can prepare the base layers (beans, cream mixture, salsa, cheese) a few hours ahead, then add lettuce and fresh toppings just before serving so they stay crisp. Adjust the heat level by choosing mild, medium, or hot salsa and adding extra taco seasoning or a pinch of cayenne if you like more spice. If the dip will sit out for a party, keep it chilled as much as possible for food safety, and consider serving in a shallow dish so each scoop gets a bit of every layer.
