Equipment

  • 1 9-inch round baking pan
  • 1 Mixing bowl
  • 1 Whisk
  • 1 Spatula
  • 1 Saucepan
  • 1 Cooling rack
  • 1 pastry brush

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup fudge pieces
  • 1 cup confectioners' sugar
  • 1/4 cup apple juice
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease the baking pan with butter and dust with flour.
  • In a mixing bowl, beat the butter and granulated sugar until creamy.
  • Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition.
  • Stir in vanilla extract.
  • In another bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with milk, and mix until smooth.
  • Fold in fudge pieces with a spatula.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  • Bake for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a cooling rack.
  • For the glaze, combine confectioners' sugar, apple juice, lemon juice, and cinnamon in a saucepan over low heat, stirring until smooth.
  • Allow the glaze to cool slightly before using.
  • Brush the apple glaze over the cooled cake.
  • Let the cake rest for an additional 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

To ensure a moist and flavorful cake, make sure not to overmix the batter as it can lead to a denser texture. Additionally, if you prefer a stronger apple flavor in the glaze, you can substitute apple juice with apple cider. The fudge pieces add a delightful richness, but feel free to add nuts or dried fruits for a personalized twist.
