  • 1 Baking dish optional

Ingredients

  • 8 ounce elbow macaroni
  • 2 cup whole milk
  • 2 tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 2 tablespoon all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
  • 2 cup shredded white cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs optional for topping

Instructions

  • Boil water in a large pot and cook the elbow macaroni according to package instructions until al dente.
  • Drain the macaroni using a colander and set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Add flour to the melted butter, whisking continuously to form a roux.
  • Gradually add milk to the roux, whisking until smooth and thickened.
  • Season the sauce with salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder.
  • Stir in the white cheddar cheese and Parmesan cheese until fully melted and smooth.
  • Combine the cooked macaroni with the cheese sauce in the saucepan.
  • Pour the mac and cheese mixture into a baking dish if desired and top with breadcrumbs.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 minutes for a crispy top, or serve immediately.

Notes

To enhance the flavor of your mac and cheese, consider using a mix of cheeses for added depth, such as Gruyere or sharp cheddar along with the white cheddar. If you prefer a creamier texture, you can substitute some of the milk with heavy cream. Always taste the sauce before combining it with the pasta to adjust seasoning to your preference.
